About the CounterPlay Festival

The first CounterPlay festival took place in April 2014 in the old main public library in Aarhus, and a lot has happened since then. It was just a simple idea about bringing together professionals from many different domains to explore play and playfulness. That idea seemed to resonate, and it remains at the core of what we’re hoping to do.

In 2016 the festival took place in the new Dokk1 in Aarhus, which was a spectacular venue and a perfect match for a playful festival, which is why we’re planning to stay here for the foreseeable future.

CounterPlay is now an NGO working on creating a community and a movement towards a more playful society, but the festival remains our biggest activity.
