Play Summit

How do we make society more playful?

At the last day of CounterPlay ’16, we’re hosting an unconference to facilitate discussions and further exploration of our opportunities for collaboration and creating real change.

Play Summit – an unconference

This year, we invite everybody interested in play & playfulness to participate in a “play summit”, where we ask the question:

How can we create stronger ties between people working with play, and how can we collaborate to make our lives, work and society more playful?

The summit takes place on the last day of CounterPlay ’16, and will tie in with the themes of the festival. During the festival, a host of questions and ideas will have surfaced, and we think it’s important to create a space to further explore, connect and develop these. It is our hope that the summit will become an integral part of the festival as a space for more elaborate discussion and reflection, and as an important catalyst for establishing playful alliances that will last long after the festival is over.

The summit is organized as an “unconference”, which means only the framework and a few central activities will be determined in advance. The rest will be decided upon by the participants, as we will plan the topics and activities together that same day. There will be a few initial inspiring pitches prepared, but apart from that, it’s all about debating and exploring together. We begin together, defining the topics, and then we go where our curiosity takes us, meeting and sharing our thoughts at several points during the day.

The unconference is a format that creates an amazing ownership and energy, and everybody gets to dive deeper into whichever interest they may find particularly important.

You can see the framework below (rooms will be added as needed).

Remember to sign up for the summit as well.

Shut Up & Write!
13:30 - 14:00

After a day of exploration and debate, we may all need a space for silent contemplation. In this session, we all sit down and start capturing our thoughts, ideas and intentions on paper (or on our phones, tablets, laptops, whatever). You don't have to write anything long or particularly elaborate. The important thing is that you get to pause and reflect, and start describing what you have learned and where you want to go from here.
